Tetsuo: Iron Man

(1992)

Directed by Shinya Tsukamoto

Full color follow up of Tetsuo: Iron Man, this film fills in the background of story. The protagonist now has a name, Taniguichi, and a motive, the kidnapping of his son. The kidknappers capture Taniguichi and submit him to hideous experiments. Taniguichi retaliates by turning turning into a cyborg warrior with more fire power than a WWII battleship. The viewers learn the secrets of Taniguichi's past, explaining why he can become a cyborg, and it's this explanation that weakens the picture. Essential to plot, giving a reason for Taniguichi's transformation reduces the universal agony of the first movie to a pedestrian science fiction plot.
